Guru Nanak

         Guru Nanak, the first Guru of Sikhs, was born on April 15, 1469, in Nankana, Talawandi, Pakistan. He said to be the founder of Sikhism. Guru Nanak believed in non-violence. He loved peace and brotherhood. He was a great reformer. He took part in Bakhti Movement. He always stood for Hindu-Muslim unity. He preached oneness of God. After the foundation of Sikhism, he started propagating his religion. He got many followers. He travelled for about 25 years and after that settled in Kartapur,
Pakistan. He continued preaching and lead an ordinary and simple life. All his teachings are, collected in Guru Granth Sahib, a holy book of Sikhs.
     Guru Nanak was very brilliant and quit by nature. He got married with Sulakhshana Devi at the age of eighteen. Laxmi Chand and Sri Chand are names of his two sons. He left this world on 1539. In India, there are many Gurudwaras, where Sikhs perform their religious rituals. On full moon night, that is, pooranmaashi, Sikhs celebrate his birthday as, Gurpurab.
